Law Enforcement Training Commission (LETC)
Law Enforcement Training Commission (LETC)
What's exceptional about many agencies is their dedication to mental health training. promoting mental health as an important ingredient for overall health is how we desensitize mental health. In this course, we build trust and confidence in one's efforts to be mentally healthy. The stigma has become the excuse. the truth is, more people suffer from mental health problems than they care to admit. Creating an individualize mental care plan is how we combat the stigma. when it's a part of everyone's plan, to be mentally healthy, we seek cooperation and team amongst our peers as opposed to ridicule and shame.

it's strange to think that there is a psychology to law enforcement. The media, and how law enforcement has been sensationalize, has defined what law enforcement is, and how bad we must be. They've got it wrong. In order for a society to understand us, we must first understand ourselves. How geography and population demographics can change or dictate one's career path and choices. No two agencies are the same, yet we are all treated the same, especially when its sensational. We must come to terms with how our profession is viewed, and the psychological implications a few bad apples will have on your agency. This course addresses the stain of depraved individuals who have hidden behind the shield. we must recognize, what is good/appropriate for law enforcement behavior, and eliminate what is not!

For centuries, individuals with severe mental health concerns and mental illness, have gone mistreated and misunderstood by law enforcement. Because of the fact, that officers may not have time, or in some cases, the training, to intervene while recognizing signs and symptoms of mental concerns. We know that some individuals do not present signs of their mental illness, and in many cases, emotions, stress, and the moment may mask mental health signs as they may appear to be overshadowed by typical resistive, combative, or suspicious behavior. Though we don't train law enforcement officers to be mental health professionals, there is crucial training that every officer can benefit from. The are many opportunities to intervene when you recognize mental health concerns, but we also must recognize out own. The course focuses on the mentally ill offender as well as each officer's disposition prior to intervention.

Some say that you can recover from stress, but you can't from burnout. Though both are preventable, you can actually recover from both. What's difficult is the fact hat the same destructive indicators are there whether we attempt to recover or not. Recovering from stress ad burnout means that you have to ether change yourself, the environment has to change, or both. Often times, we just sit and watch people burnout. we don't realize that the environment, who we work with, and the routine, contribute to burnout ad usually outlast the individual. In today';s shortages, the lat thing we need, is to lose good people. Simple solutions like a change in work assignment or work partner, makes a difference. the course creates opportunities to remedy stressful situations that lead to burn out. We will teach you the steps to recognize the concern early and provide you with multiple methods to address it.
