One of the most basic forces that is often neglected, is motivation. Here, we ask the questions: ‘Why do I come to work? What’s in it for me? Am I being treated fairly? Does anyone care what it’s really like? What can I do to better protect myself? Is their opportunity for me here?’ These are not all of the questions, but these questions deserve the answers that are essential to a healthy work environment. In most medium and large organizations, there exist, individuals and groups of individuals who one may find it difficult to motivate. The truth is, everyone can and should be motivated. Often times, negative employees garner most of the attention and have a larger impact on the environment. Understanding this, these same employees will represent the biggest changes for morale, positivity, and the like. This course will guide the attendee through the process of being productive as well as understanding that most of one’s motivation should come from within. Some individuals are in the wrong position for the wrong reason. Maybe they simply needed a job, and their need is somewhat satisfied by the income they receive. Other employees may believe that they are not important, heard, and that they should have received an opportunity that they didn’t get. Regardless of the reason, for under-motivated employees, negativism is exhausting and contagious. We will work on, the right fit for the right employee. Working within one’s position, is an expectation that is required simply because one is compensated for it. When the compensation is not enough, then the recognition for improved performance, positive attitudes, patience, and the like, that puts the worker in a position of purposeful and positive practices that benefits the agency, the morale of the environment, and the potential for that employee.
