Retooling Corrections

This training course focuses on supervisors and correctional officers. It is very important to understand the obvious, correction officers are the most influential individuals, other than the inmates, that impacts the practices and operations of the facility. As shifts rotate, correctional offers are present 24 hours a day while administrators and/or executives are present less than half of the day. Therefore, reliability and trust, for the operations of the facility, rests on correctional officers and supervisors. This course is designed to implement current best practice considerations including addressing predisposed and learned behavior traits. As with any training, officers have to make the decision, "do I adhere to or change my behavior in such a manner that is recommended and required, or do I ignore training, policy, and expectations and continue to allow for dysfunctional actions?" The majority of correctional officers go to work everyday, and work in a manner that is appropriate and expected. But the 'majority’ is not enough because it is not ‘all.’ We will focus on professionalizing the profession, practicing in a manner that is acceptable, exceeding expectations, and the rigor of changing behavior. Supervising and managing correctional staff requires that the supervisor is also held to the same level of accountability and expectations.
