We have innovated a new approach to training on implicit and explicit bias. We recognize that every person that can walk, talk, and chew gum has biases. So what does that mean? It really doesn’t mean much. The problem occurs at a moment in judgement. Either this is done at first sight or it occurs because of misconceptions about someone other than you. The truth is, being biased is not the problem. The problems occur when we decide, whether we know it or not, to treat some unfairly. This course is not designed to talk about your biases and to even cure you of being biased (impossible). This course was design to keep you focused on being policy and training driven and operating on one simple premise. Behavior and the practice of behavior is two-fold. If your behavior is good, then good results will come from that. If your behavior is bad, the opposite will occur. Too many agencies believe that issues with bias will never happen to their agency. And too many officers believe that it will never happen to them. In this training, we will help you to understand, that you control your behavior, end even so, you can be falsely accused of behaving with bias. This perception of law enforcement has gained so much traction over the past four years, I believe, when something goes wrong, the officer didn’t wake-up and decide that morning, that he/she would behave with bias. Situations create situations that could spiral out of control. This intense training course has the rigor of content absorption, breakout sessions, real world scenarios, and the intent to create a plan that will help you to diminish the perception of bias. We go all-in in this training and we will challenge your resolve.
